Karl Lagerfeld in his wonderworld

Karl Lagerfeld is widely recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers of the late 20th century. He has collaborated with a variety of different fashion labels, with Chloé, Fendi and Chanel the most notable.

His clothes... have a kind of understated chic, elegance, and just plain 'class'.

Despite moving from label to label, Lagerfeld has managed to retain a sense of his own style throughout his career. His success lies in an ability to make a bold statement and he is never afraid to try something new. He has also maintained a sense of humour throughout his designing.

He also enjoys a range of outside interests, including languages (he speaks fluent German, English, French and Italian and has expressed a desire to learn Spanish), illustration, antiques and photography.

7L, a rather minimalist space owned by the book-addicted Karl Lagerfeld, reflects the designer's impressive personal library. Lagerfeld stocks the shelves with his favorite new releases, as well as the books he edits himself.

Chanel, 29-31 rue Cambon, 75001 Paris, France
