Tea for two

Around 1840, the royal beverage of Louis XIV became the preferred drink of gentlemen who frequented court circles and aristocratic salons.Mariage Frères is a parisian family tea-business established in 1854. They did business with the most distant trading posts in China and Ceylon.

After 130 years of existence, Mariage Frères decided to enter the retail business, selling more than 500 high quality teas over the counter and by mail-order. In addition to supplying tea grown in 35 different countries, Mariage Frères perpetuates the fine art of serving tea through the design and reproduction of exclusive teapots, tea services, and other utensils. They made a small but interesting museum upstairs at Rue du Bourg-Tibourg.

Everybody drinks black tea, nowadays more and more people drink green tea, who wants blue or white tea ? At the "Salon de thé", you can taste them all, together with a brunch, lunch or excellent sweet cake. I love the place, be sure to make a reservation on sundays as it gets rather crowded. When you want to buy tea, they are very helpful, you can smell the teas, but ... tea can be very pricy ! My favorite is the blend Mont d'Or, "très rafiné".
