Maurice De Vlaminck, fauvist and a real character

This time at Musée du Luxembourg they made an exhibition of a lesser known painter: Maurice De Vlaminck. He was an ex-cyclist, ex-boxer with a big head and hands, collector of African art, author of poetry and novels, painter.

He is considered one of the principal figures in the Fauve movement, a group of modern artists who from 1904 to 1908 were united in their use of intense color.

One of his quotes "J’étais un barbare tendre et plein de violence" expresses the whole of his work.
